LYNNE WELLS' Biography
LYNNE WELLS began choreographing in Vermont, when she was 6, performing the dance with her sister for the 3rd and 4th grade classes in her elementary school. At the age of 16 she took her first dance class and choreographed her next dance to be performed for an audience. While studying for her undergraduate degree in French at the University of Vermont, Ms. Wells spent all of her spare time choreographing and in dance classes and rehearsals.
Upon graduating Ms. Wells spent some time in Austin, Texas, where she danced with the Kinesis Dance Company. Lynne moved to New York in 1994. Since her arrival, she has shown work in various New York venues including 7 seasons at HATCH, the Jennifer Muller/The Works performance series. Her dance, entitled Atmospheric Conditions, with music by Northern Machine, had its New York debut on April 15th at the HATCH Performance Series. Internationally, her choreography has been performed in Recife, Brazil and Atmospheric Conditions, which was created in Switzerland, was performed in May, 2000 by the 3 X 1 Tanzkompanie of Rorschach, Switzerland. She teaches Muller technique for the company and scholarship classes at The Works Studio in Manhattan and has taught in Recife, Brazil at Carolemos Dancarte and most recently in Rorschach, Switzerland at the DanceLoft.
This past June 16-18, 2000 saw a presentation of Lynne's evening length work entitled Beneath the Surface, which combined choreography and poetry with original musical compositions. The show was held at the Gene Frankel Theater in New York City.
